Activities of the Education Center for Nursing Development

1. Purpose and Target Group


1-1) Purpose

The purpose of this center is to strengthen the clinical competency of nurses who work at national hospitals and sanatoriums, and to assure the high quality of nursing education in nursing schools attached to those national facilities and to develop the necessary personnel to take a leadership role in policy-based nursing.


1-2) Target Group

We provide courses for nurses who work in the National Centers for Advanced and Specialized Medical Care, national hospitals and sanatoriums, as well as for the teachers who work in nursing schools attached to those national facilities.

2. Education Programs

2-1) Certified Expert Nurses (CEN) courses

These courses take six months and aim to educate Certified Expert Nurses who can use mature nursing skills and knowledge to provide a high level of nursing practice, leadership, and consultation in a specific nursing area.


At the present, we provide courses including;

  • Infection control
  • Cancer pain management nursing
  • Cancer chemotherapy nursing

The Japanese Nursing Association (JNA) certifies the CEN. The graduates of this course are able to sit for the certificate examination.


2-2) Short term courses

These courses take about 3 days to 1 week and aim to-improve competence in nursing practice, nursing research, and nursing education.
